This is a painting of my good friend and work colleague. I wanted to capture her in a classic pose that would highlight her grace and understated sensuality.
Autumn Stars was quite a challenge. My goal was to create the subject with a cacophony of autumn colours. This needed to come together to deliver the pagan beauty of a red headed girl.
Few people get this painting immediately. I have used the least possible light and yet given just enough to tease the mind into joining the dots.
Light provides the prism that gives all colour. With this low light image I have used an array of diverse and bright colours to give depth to the subject and provide a colourful abstract at close quarters.

If, like me, you were born in Britain in the early 6o's then your 'formative' years will have been influenced by David Bowie. On news of his recent death, I felt like a small but important part of me died too.
This was one of my early paintings. I have always found Gorillas fascinating. I wanted to capture the dark brooding intelligence of this incredible creature.
I enjoy painting red haired subjects. Auburn hair can be expressed though a massive spectrum of colours. With this painting I wanted to capture the feeling of Autumn leafs and crisp frosty mornings.
It is said that the eyes are the window to the soul. I am fascinated by the complexity of the human eye. The stunning result of millions of years of evolution.

Whilst simple, this remains one of my favourite paintings. I like the way light lifts a figure from the darkness. I imagine just enough light from a bedside lamp or candle capturing the beauty of this woman before the darkness steels her away.

This was my earliest painting. I was experimenting with the cellular concept and attempting to produce an image with the fewest possible cells of colour.

This painting was inspired by a photograph I came across in an article about the homeless. I was looking for an image that would capture the frailty of old age but the wisdom of a life lived.

There is a quote by the seventeenth century author John Donne which states 'No man is an island' I found myself thinking about this and came to the opinion that he could be no further from the truth.

This painting further plays with a low lit subject. Light hinting at what is hidden in the shadows.
